W. Scott O’Neil, Chief Executive Officer of Data Analysis Incorporated (DAI), the holding company for the O’Neil family of businesses employing more than 700 associates worldwide, is a strategic thinker, focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship as the backbone of success. As CEO, he provides leadership and strategic direction for all DAI operating companies. Mr. O’Neil follows in the footsteps of his father, founder William J. O’Neil, by bringing his exceptional business acumen and prodigious knowledge of the stock market and portfolio management to his role and using innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit to grow the O’Neil companies.
Mr. O’Neil joined Investor’s Business Daily in 1986, where he served in a range of leadership roles, including director of marketing and advertising sales, before becoming publisher in 1994. In 2000, he became a portfolio manager, and he continually leverages this experience to provide ongoing input to the development of institutional products for William O’Neil + Company. Mr. O’Neil is passionate about educating people about the stock market, and he speaks often as a media commentator and at workshops and financial industry events.
In 2010, Mr. O’Neil was named president of MarketSmith Incorporated, a retail investment product that is now part of Investor’s Business Daily (acquired by News Corp in 2021), and guided its national launch. Mr. O’Neil was appointed CEO of DAI in 2014 by his father after investing side-by-side with him and providing leadership to the DAI companies for decades. Going forward, he seeks to continue his father’s legacy of guiding the O’Neil companies to success and fostering a passion for hard work and education in its associates.
Mr. O’Neil earned his degree in Business Management from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Program for Management Development. He is married with two children and enjoys spending time with his family, reading, landscaping, and baseball.
